FMA 30 Day Challenge - Day 17

Woo, caught up! And this is the best one too! Romance will always be my favorite part of any story.

Day 17- Do you have a favorite ship or crack pairing?

THIS.

Okay, so there’s a long story behind my intense ship of Royai. When I watched the first series, I was completely OBSESSED with Ed and Winry, to the point where I didn’t acknowledge or notice any other couples in the series. In fact, I’m sad to say that I barely noticed their relationship in the first series (I know; it’s tragic). I knew they had a thing and that the couple existed, but I didn’t really ship it in the first series.

But when I saw Brotherhood, my entire opinion of these two changed. I suddenly went from being indifferent to shipping them harder than I’ve ever shipped anything. Seriously, everything about these two is incredibly sweet. They’re just so real to me. They aren’t overly mushy or sappy; they bicker and tease each other and fuss like a real couple. They have their highs and their lows, but manage to stick by one another through every encounter.

What I love about Royai is that its a relationship based on complete trust, devotion, and loyalty. Both of them would do anything to keep the other safe, even if it meant sacrificing their own lives. You can tell from watching their actions that they truly care for one another, but their relationship is subtle enough that it doesn’t beat you over the head in every episode. To me, they’re the most realistic couple in the entire anime, and I absolutely loved every moment in this show that developed their relationship further. It was a truly beautiful thing to watch. <3

As a side note, however, I loved EVERY couple in this show. My second favorite would obviously have to be Ed and Winry, as I shipped them first. Lan Fan and Ling are also incredibly adorable together, as well as the overload of sugary cuteness that was Al/Mei. Seriously, even the little minor couples in this anime are cute. Royai is forever going to be my favorite after seeing Brotherhood, but I will always stop to appreciate all of the wonderful relationships in this series, romantic or otherwise. FMA is just a giant bucket of cute sometimes.

SPREADING THE LOVE IN GIF FORM.

Also, no crack pairings for me. I’m kind of a strictly canon kinda girl. Always have been, always will be. I mean, seriously; can you blame me? Look at all of the canon cute we get from this show!

FMA 30 Day Challenge - Day 12

*wallows in shame* I totally forgot to do yesterday’s challenge, so you get two today. Blame Finals week for making me forget!

Day 12- Your all-time favorite line(s)

Funnily enough, most of my favorite lines come from Mustang, in both series. In series one, pretty much every famous line in Fullmetal vs. Flame is one of my favorites, including “I love dogs!” and the infamous mini-skirt line (I know, I’m not very original).

In the second series, my all-time FAVORITE line has to be Mustang’s, “I kinda got drunk and bought a car full of flowers” line. That moment was so unexpected and random, and the entire scene slayed me. I realized then that Mustang was one of my favorite characters (I know; it took me way too long), and I’ve been quoting it ever since. If I ever met Travis Willingham in person, that’s the line I would beg him to say.

Other favorites include Ed’s short rants, the milk line, and Ed’s “There are so many people whose asses I have to kick” line. I also LOVE the final line of the series, when you hear Ed’s voice saying, “Yeah, a heart made fullmetal.” All of my creys came out when I heard that, because it reminded me that this was the end. The message behind that final line is just amazing as well, and it really tied the entire series together in a wonderful way. The irony is that most of my favorite lines are actually the voice actors’ favorite lines as well. Oh well; I guess great minds just think alike. ;)

FMA 30 Day Challenge - Day 11

Because it’s past midnight and I’m allowed!

Day 11- Your favorite fight

This because of reasons.

No, seriously. This is SO freaking bad-ass it’s not even funny. First you have Hawkeye over there going ape-shit because she thinks Mustang’s dead, popping four rounds into Lust like it’s no big deal. Then you have EVEN MORE bad-ass Mustang, who swoops in ready to save the day. Never mind the fact that five minutes ago he was bleeding to death on the ground. Nah, he just BURNS THE WOUND SHUT like a complete BOSS, then waltzes in and roasts the shit out of Lust. It’s five minutes of absolute epic, and it’s my favorite fight in the show. This fight is proof that you should never get in the way of a Colonel and his Lieutenant. <3

If I had to pick a second, however, it would definitely be the like five episode fight near the end, where there are about four fights going on at once (specifically just because of the above moment). You’ve got Izumi and the Armstrongs kicking some Sloth ass, Ed and the boys fighting off the zombie apocalypse in the basement, and Al being a total bad-ass against Pride and Kimblee. THAT was an intense sequence of fighting, let me tell you. I just love those moments in any show when each character is highlighted in all of their ass-kicking glory. I was so into the anime at that point that I literally could not stop watching, so that’s definitely my second. The reason it isn’t first is because it’s much less specific and can’t be condensed into a single episode. It technically doesn’t even count as a single fight; it’s more like several fights all being thrown at you at once.

…Oh, and also Ed’s fight with Father at the very end was like, the definition of epic. You got to see a lot of awesome stuff there too, like Mustang and Hawkeye tag-team fighting and the brothers kicking ass. It was just amazing to watch all of that play out. Let’s face it; there are way too many good fights in this anime to narrow it down to one. I’m just gonna stop talking now before I write a novel explaining why I love every fight in this anime.

FMA 30 Day Challenge - Day 9

Well, it is technically Day 9 (because I’m slow and posted 8 late). Decided to do this now before I forget later.

Day 9- Your thoughts on the first anime

Okay, I know a lot of FMA fans might hate me for this, but… My opinion of the first series has been SEVERELY tainted by Brotherhood. Seriously, after seeing Brotherhood and then going back to re-watch the original series, I wondered why I ever liked the original. I’m not saying the story or the animation is bad; it’s obviously wonderful or I would never have liked FMA in the first place. And, as the old anime is the first one I ever saw, it’s always gonna have a special place in my heart. But Brotherhood was just pure perfection; the old series just can’t compare to it. The storyline is just so wacky when compared to Brotherhood and the manga; it doesn’t make nearly as much sense.

Another thing I love about the second series that the first just doesn’t have is the satisfying ending. Not just a satisfying ending, but many more adorably satisfying couple moments for Ed and Winry and Mustang and Hawkeye. I never really noticed or cared about Mustang and Hawkeye in the first series because you don’t get any of their history or backstory. There’s just so much more of everyone to love in Brotherhood. Besides that the first series doesn’t have Ling, Lan Fan, Olivier, or Mei Chang. I love all of those characters, and I would have never even known they existed if it hadn’t been for the second series. The first series just went off on this weird tangent and left me feeling a strange mixture of sadness and dissatisfaction. The second series further ignited my inner fan-girl and I will never be able to look at the first series the same way again because of it.

So yeah, those are my thoughts. I still love it, but definitely not as much as Brotherhood. It’s just not as good of a series overall. Also, the above episode in its entirety was the best part of the entire first series. Just saying. That’s one thing the old series will always hold over Brotherhood; plenty of hilariously quote-able lines to torment our favorite voice actors with.

FMA 30 Day Challenge - Day 3

I’m cutting it really close on this one, but it totally still counts!

Day 3- Your favorite character

This sexy bastard because of reasons.

So this one is actually incredibly difficult. I have like a top 5 list that is impossible to narrow down. If I was being forced at gunpoint to choose, I’d probably choose Ed, just because I think he’s hilarious and adorable and sexy and awesome all in one little shrimpy bundle. If I were allowed to pick a top 5, however, in no particular order, I’d go with:

Armstrong

Because he could beat Edward Cullen in a sparkle-off any day.

Mustang

Because he’s dead sexy in a miniskirt.

Ling

Because he’s just adorable and badass at the same time.

Hawkeye

Because nobody else can reach this level of badassery without the use of alchemy.

And of course Ed, just because I love everything about his smart little ass. <3 Team Edward Elric all the way.
